Since 1997, DCI Barnaby (Tom and John) have solved many many murders around the area of Causton in the fictional English county of Midsomer. Involving 128 programmes in 22 series, the viewer is enthralled by the beautiful scenery of traditional rural landscapes but where is Midsomer? It actually covers the counties adjoining the Chilterns AONB which are mainly Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire but some scenes have been filmed in Hertfordshire, Surrey and Berkshire too. In real life, Causton is really Wallingford and the towns and villages around are also readily identified, often through disguises to shop fronts and the like. So which episodes were filmed in Watlington? These include Dead Man’s Eleven 1999, Judgement Day 2000, Ring out your Dead 2002, Sins of Commission 2004, Orchis Fatalis 2005, A Tale of Two Hamlets 2003, Midsomer Rhapsody 2005, Written in the Stars 2012 and St Leonard’s Church Watlington has featured in several more.
Come and stay at Wisteria Cottage and discover the places you have seen in the programme including Wallingford, Dorchester, Henley, Thame, Amersham and of course Watlington.
